A fork is a tactical motif in which a single piece simultaneously attacks two or more of the opponent's pieces or pawns. All pieces can create forks, but knight forks are the most common and dangerous because a knight's L-shaped movement makes its forks particularly difficult to anticipate. A royal fork attacks both the king and queen.
