Chess Terms : Tarrasch Rule Explained
The Tarrasch rule states that rooks should be placed behind passed pawns—whether one's own or the opponent's. Behind one's own passed pawn, the rook supports its advance; behind the opponent's, the rook restrains it. Named after Siegbert Tarrasch (1862–1934).
